The Complete Guide to Las Vegas Shows

Las Vegas is the live-entertainment capital of the world — and it shows!

On any given night you can see a Cirque du Soleil spectacle, world-class magic, a raunchy (in a good way) adults-only circus, a dead-on Elvis tribute, or a comedy-hypnosis show where the audience is the act.

There are roughly 100 shows running across 13 categories. Below, we break down what each category is, the standout shows to know, and where to go deeper. Start with how to choose, then jump to whatever sounds like your night.

How to choose a Las Vegas show

With this many options, the fastest way to narrow things down is to answer three questions:

  • Who’s with you? Traveling with kids points you to Family, Magic, or Cirque; a bachelorette or date night points to Adult, Drag, or a comedy club. Check the age rating on every show.
  • What’s the vibe? Big-budget spectacle (Cirque, Variety), intimate and funny (comedy, magic, hypnosis), or music you already love (Musical, Tribute, Impersonator).
  • On or off the Strip — and what’s the budget? Marquee Strip productions run higher; off-Strip tributes, brunches, and afternoon shows are often the best value.

Not sure? The free Vegas Show Finder matches a show to your dates, group, and budget in under a minute.

Frequently asked questions about Las Vegas shows

At any given time there are roughly 100 regularly running shows across 13 categories — from Cirque du Soleil spectacles and world-class magic to comedy clubs, tributes, drag brunches, and hypnosis. This guide links to a full best-of guide for each category.

There’s no single answer — it depends on who you’re with and what you’re after. Cirque’s O is the consensus ‘most spectacular,’ Absinthe the top adults-only pick, and Shin Lim or Penn & Teller lead for magic. Use the category guides above to match a show to your group.

Prices range widely — afternoon comedy-magic and off-Strip tributes can run under $50, while marquee Cirque productions and headliners run well over $100.

Many are — the Family category alone has dozens of all-ages options, and Magic, Cirque, Variety, and most tributes welcome kids. Others (Adult, most Standup, some Drag and Hypnosis) are 18+ or 21+, so always check the age rating on the show page.

You can get tickets directly through the show’s website, Ticketmaster, and also at websites that often offer discounted tickets like Vegas.com and Groupon.com. We’ve had a good experience getting tickets from both of those places, and Vegas.com has become one of our go-to’s. That’s why we mostly link to Vegas.com from our show pages. However, we always recommend researching prices to get the best deal.
